For this article, we’ll use the motor retail trade as an example for common scenarios :
Sales, service and parts advisors
Will be working predominantly inside but required to go outside and show customers round vehicles… normally maximum 30 minutes at a time.
For spring/summer we often advise a short soft shell jacket / and or a mid weight jacket which is either mesh lined thin fleece lined. This will provide a wind and waterproof outer layer and for these roles is pretty much suitable for most of the year except extreme cold weather.
For winter, clients either add a fleece to the staff wardrobe or go for a 3 in 1 coat which has a removable fleece.

Another option is a padded coat which is an ideal solution for dealerships who want to encourage advisors to be suited except for in extreme cold and wet weather.

These members of staff are likely to be outside more – and are in and out of vehicles all the time. The garments we recommend are extremely warm and waterproof whilst offering good movement and comfort for driving. We offer padded coats with hi-vis strips. Generally for winter working, our customers supply technicians with fleece jackets which are warm enough for most situations – some dealerships supplement these with a waterproof jacket if their technicians aren’t working under cover at all times.
